United Arab Emirates:

Window Cleaners at the Abu Dhabi Mall in The UAE took their lives and the lives of civilians below into there own hands the other day. Two window cleaners working for an unknown company decided to take off their harnesses and life lines to finish a job faster. The picture shows one of the window cleaners working on the 13th floor on the thin tile ledge of the malls exterior perimeter. Not only are the window cleaners at risk of a deadly fall but passers by below were in danger as well. It was reported to the mall management company and the window cleaning company’s contract for cleaning was terminated due to the excessively wreckless behavior. The window cleaners worked like this unhindered for 3 entire floors before stopped by authorities.

It is important to note that along with the window cleaners being unharnessed and without lifelines, that their window cleaning tools, buckets, and poles were also without proper fall protection. It is mandatory that high rise window cleaners utilize tool lanyards when working on high rise buildings. The exteriors of buildings are continually in need of maintenance, one small crack in one of the exterior ledge tiles or a wet piece of mold or mildew on the ledge could have spelled disaster for the window cleaning technician and possible civilians below. These men had been cleaning for over a half an hour unnoticed.
